Inception

The Academy of Ability opened in August of 2009. It was conceived and developed by a pediatric Occupational Therapist who has worked in the public school system as a therapist, evaluator, and program director. In addition, he has worked in private therapy practice, focusing exclusively on pediatrics for 15 years. Drawing from this experience program was developed to provide a greater focus on developing life skills in concert with providing academic activities to foster both learning and independent living.

Curriculum

At the youngest ages, movement is part of education. Play helps children learn to follow steps, sequence actions, and focus. These skills play a major part in being ready to learn. If motor skills are compromised, not only will the child have difficulty with independent living, but so too will be the ability to participate and benefit from education.

At the Academy of Abiilty our curriculum focuses on infusing all educational activities with movement to foster better educational participation in education but also to also to develop more effective, normalized movement for idependence in life skills.

The Academy of Ability is a program for children with physical disabilities which compromise learning and living.
